Bus drivers and traffic tickets.
Why do city bus drivers very rarely seem to get traffic tickets? It’s a mystery. These drivers have gone through red lights now and then, like other vehicles, although perhaps not as frequently. As for exceeding posted speed limits, it happens constantly. Yet, a city bus driver receiving a speeding ticket seems to be a rare sight indeed. Why? Does there exist some little-known rule that public service vehicles shall not be ticketed for speeding? Or is the official speed limit higher for city buses? Who knows?!?! But in the interests of democracy, these questions should be discussed in a public forum by the parties concerned, including, typically, city authorities.

The mystery deepens. These drivers sometimes engage in really obnoxious conduct in the road. Conduct which, for “regular” drivers, could probably result in a traffic ticket. Are there officially some exemptions for city bus drivers? Not that I’m aware of. So where are the ticketers when you really need them?
What about making a turn, right or left, without signalling? Surely this type of infraction deserves a ticket, for every driver, private or public? So what gives? I wonder. Buses are generally equipped with turn signals, much like passenger cars. Is it too much of an effort for the driver to use these signals when making a turn?
My “favourite” complaint regarding the bad conduct of a few city bus drivers is the infraction “Failure to demonstrate sufficient courtesy towards pedestrians”. This wording is generic and approximate, it may vary, depending on where you reside.
All right, on a stretch of road marked “no parking except buses”, it’s clear that these vehicles can park legally without getting ticketed. However, when the sign simply reads “No Parking”, as in applying to all vehicles, why are sometimes buses parked there, and no ticket? An oversight? A mistake? An exemption? Who knows? I wish the newspapers and/or city authorities would clarify the situation for us citizens.
